TRAVEL TRYOUTS

Noblesville Youth Baseball Travel Program is committed to developing talented young men with a passion for baseball. As a philosophical extension of the Miller Baseball Program, each player & coach will be pushed to achieve excellence on and off the field through 1st class instruction and support. While demanding commitment and denying selfishness, each player and coach will be expected to embrace reality, but work to improve everyday while putting the team (others) before themselves.

Teams Available

Tryouts will be held for the following age groups:
8U - 12U

Age Requirements

The travel leagues and tournaments are played by age level. In order to qualify for a specific age group, your next birthday cannot be prior to May 1st of that year.

A birth certificate will be required to validate birthdate and registration for the proper age group.

Example: If you intend to play 10U for the 2019 Season you can not turn 11 prior to May 1st, 2019.

You must tryout for the proper age level.  Failure to do so can result in a disqualification and your child may not be put on a team.

Residency Requirement

As the Millers Travel Program is a Community based program, all players must reside INSIDE the Noblesville School District Boundaries to be eligible.  Addresses will be checked/confirmed for each player who registers for tryouts.

Tryout Dates

If you plan to play on a travel team you are required to attend the appropriate tryout for your age group. If you have any questions, please contact the Travel Council (travelcouncil@noblesvillebaseball.org).

Registration Process & Notifications
Parents register each player who wishes to tryout for travel baseball on our website (scroll down for registration links).  There is NO fee to tryout for a team.  If the player is selected for a team, the parent will receive an email notification.  The parent and child must choose to ACCEPT or DECLINE the selection.  If the parent accepts, payment for the fee is due in total or you can choose to utilize the payment plan.  The payment plan allows you to spread the cost over several months.

7U - 12U Rec Plus (formerly Part-Time Travel) teams will tryout in the spring during Rec baseball.

Attire

Players should wear appropriate baseball attire including baseball pants, shirt (preferably with a number), baseball cleats, a cup, and a HAT. Tryouts will begin promptly at the scheduled time so arrive early enough to get loose before we begin. Players should also have their own glove and bat to use during tryouts.

2019 Travel Information Document:

What is Travel Baseball?

With Travel Ball Tryouts just around the corner, we wanted to give you an idea of what to expect not only with the tryout process, but also with the travel season itself. First of all, the word “travel” is a little daunting to some. A misconception is that these kids and their families will be traveling out of town or even out of state every weekend; paying for gas and hotels to play baseball games. The fact is we have an outstanding facility that teams from all over Indiana and even from surrounding states drive to us to play. Most of our “travel” teams will play in just one overnight tournament (up to the coach) and one other local tournament. Every other weekend we are entered in our own tournaments right here in Noblesville. Traditionally, our 10U teams do travel to Cooperstown, NY in June, but there are fundraising opportunities to help offset those costs.

Another misconception is that travel players play around 80 games in the summer. Our season is broken into two parts, a league season and a tournament season. The league season (April and May) consists of usually one weeknight game and one doubleheader on Sunday for about 4 or 5 weeks. The Tournament season follows and runs to mid-July. We set a goal for our coaches to try to schedule a total of about 45 games. We feel this is a safe number to avoid burnout and overuse. It also allows our kids to play other sports if they are interested.

Our focus for travel players is centered on development. We will begin in the Fall with four program workouts focusing on individual and team specific drills ran by the Development Council while the weather is still decent to be outside. After that we will shut it down until winter workouts begin sometime in December. These will be once a week and will focus on skill development, hitting, and starting to gradually build up these young arms to be able to pitch safely once the season starts. Once the season starts, plan on two practices a week with your team.

We have two full-time travel teams per 9U-12U age levels. We have a Black (A) team and a Gold (B) team. This covers all the off-season training including facility rentals, umpire fees and tournament entries during the season, practice shirt and two full sets of uniforms as well as one free parking pass for Noblesville tournaments.

Tryout Process

With limited spots available, the tryout process is extremely important. The travel council will be running the boys through a workout and evaluating their individual skills including running speed, throwing strength and accuracy, fielding actions at both ground balls and fly balls, and hitting mechanics. Players may be placed on teams and participate in a live modified game at their age level where the council can rate hustle, competitiveness, and baseball instincts. Throughout both sessions attitude and coachability will be assessed. After tryouts, teams will be selected by the travel council using a variety of information including the evaluation notes and previous season history. Previous year’s coaches do not take part in the evaluation process. They may, however, be asked to assist in hitting balls or recording times of another age level. Our goal is that players that are selected, be placed on a team where they can be successful and develop over the course of the season.

Parents are welcome to WATCH, but do not interfere with the process by talking to your child during the tryout. If this will be hard for you, please stay up under the pavilion during the workouts.

Players should be notified within the week once all evaluations are completed, reviewed, and discussed by the travel council. Coaches will be interviewed and selected once the players are placed on the appropriate teams.
